Christi and Shadow

Well, Christi has been a member of our family for over a month now & it's as
though she has been here forever. She has really made herself at "home" in every sense of the word.

She has taken over the place, including Shadow's bed, but he doesn't seem to mind. He sleeps right next to her on a rug that he scrunches up. They play together as though they are both little kids...keep in mind that Shadow is almost 9 years old & never played with toys & Christi is about a year old & never played with toys.

Now, they have a tug of war with Christi's stuffed animals & each one sneaks out of the house with one in their mouth. It's quite comical watching the two of them playing.

We have discovered that Christi is part Whippet & I believe she's got more whippet than anything. When she first came into my life she was quiet & not very energetic because she had mange, Erlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, low platelets & mange. We would go out for walks & she would
show interest in the birds but that was about it. Now she is on the prowl all the time tracking her prey when we go out for walks. She is constantly looking for bunnies, birds & anything else that moves.  I've read that a Whippet can run at speeds of 35 mpg & I really believe this is true. This kid is FAST & can turn on a dime! She's very entertaining!

It's obvious that she has totally recovered & doing very well. She loves people, gets along with other dogs (especially her brother Shadow) & she LOVES LIFE!

For a dog who didn't know what to make of the stuffed animals I gave her when she first came to us she is certainly making up for the. You almost never see her without an elephant sticking out of her mouth! At least now she has learned to enjoy them without destroying them....thank god! The elephant in the photo on the left lost all it's limbs but he still has a head & trunk. She still LOVES it & she has not caused any further damage to it. I think she finally figured out that if she pulls anything else off there won't be anything left to love & that was her very first toy. It took quite a while for her to figure out that they were something to play with & then it took almost losing it for her to realize she can't destroy it! Now she treasures her toys.

Planning Our First Vacation Without A Motorhome!

Well, after about 18 years of RVing we are planning our first vacation without an RV. Not only that but we are also going without the dogs. I am ok with traveling without an RV but no dogs, I'm not sure about that. It will be strange & we will miss them but we an stay out all day without fear of them being alone too long.

We have someone who is going to house/dog sit while we are gone. She is a volunteer at the Cinderella Pet Rescue & so she is all checked out on dogs. She also knows Christi. Our friends Lynn & Stuart are going away the day after we return & Dayla will be taking care of their house & dogs while they are gone.
They will be available for any emergency while we are gone & we will do the same while they are gone. This should work out great for all of us since we all know Dayla & she knows us & at least one of our dogs (we each have a dog from Cinderella).

This is a relatively short trip but it should be a lot of fun. We are heading to San Antonio for 3 days & then off to Fredericksburg for 3 days.

The San Antonio trip is going to be at a traditional hotel (a Hyatt) on the River Walk so that should be fun.

Fredericksburg is going to be at an old Inn that has been restored, cottages added, etc. It should be a lot of fun. We have a 2 room suite reserved which they recommended based on several conversations with them. I am also going to treat myself to a massage in their spa.

The photos shown here are the ones from their website & it is what I used to make the decision as to which suite I wanted. It seemed real cozy...complete with rocking chairs on the front porch. The top photo is the main building.

I will post more photos when I return from the trip since I am not taking my computer & I'm not working while I'm gone....well, I might take the computer!
